Operation Heroes
Santa Kicking Up a Storm In Iraq
Auburn, MA December 22, 2007 – 500 Karate students got together to provide
Christmas time cheer to 3 soldiers that are serving their country in Iraq and
Afghanistan. For 3 weeks the students collected toiletries, food, sport’s
equipment and games to send to the armed service personnel as an expression of
gratitude and support for our heroes. They even included 30 letters and posters
made by children karate students to say “Thank You," for their sacrifice.
“The service men we picked were all friends or family of students in one of our
schools", says Anne McCoy, the managing owner of McCoy’s Action Karate, “We have
found that the students respond with love and concern beyond our capacity to
anticipate."
This is the second year that MAK students have sent material to armed service
personnel serving in harm’s way. They sent poems, food, soap, razors, cards,
chess games, footballs, tooth brushes, cameras, candy, candy and more candy by
the hundreds of pounds.
All these gifts were packed into three separate two foot by two foot by four
foot boxes and shipped directly to the soldiers for distribution to their units.
“This form of direct contact, through our Operation Heroes project, with the
heroes who are away from their families is a direct response to our principles
showing respect and honor and our codes dealing with honoring your country,"
comments Anne.
