![]() Bryan’s black belt given to Rossik family AUBURN — On Saturday May 5, 18 students of McCoy’s Action Karate earned their black belt after 15 hours of testing, and five more were invited to test for Master Belt, Fourth and Fifth Degree Black Belts. One of the 18 was Bryan Rossik,whose family was awarded his black belt posthumously. The final three hours of the black belt test were open by invitation to family members and friends, and 17 sparred (karate fighting with gear), performed Forms (set patterns of self-defense) kickboxed, defended themselves against varied attacks, broke wood and performed many strengthening and conditioning tests. The candidates performed their continuously throughout the evening until they were awarded their black belts. Rossik, a black belt candidate whose life was cut short in a car accident in Leicester in April, was awarded his First Degree Black Belt at the ceremony. His father, a black belt at McCoy’s Action Karate, received the belt and certificate on behalf of the family, who were also in attendance. “Bryan always finished what he started,” Joe Rossik stated, “and I am sure he would have finished this if he could have. It was in his nature.” Added the elder Rossik: “This is sad in that we will miss Bryan’s company, but happy in that we will see him again in heaven.” Dylan Collins, Briana Smith, Robbie Gingras, Jonathan Grayum, Shannon Dougherty and Micaela Hamilton all received their black belts in Kenpo. Tyler Dolan and Daniel Livermore received their second separate black belt, also in Kenpo. Daniel Morin, Derek Carlin, Seth Rider, Lisa Dorr, Peter Langlais, Erin Perreault, Joe Hilt and Dominic Miner all received their First Degree Black Belts in Tang Soo Do, while Devon Zielonka earned his second degree Black Belt in Tang Soo do.
